artist book; poetry letterpress, woodblock print after sumi-e drawing
I start with the cadence of a feeling, and the words it becomes. Sometimes I know where a piece is going, sometimes it records the exploration of ideas taking shape;
The crows, given form first as a sumi-e drawing, then by another as a woodblock print, are offered and accepted without instruction, without rule, without prior intent;
Point and counterpoint between form & content, shape & context, the piece standing for itself & me, giving and taking instruction.
None of this is to say the push and pull of idea—context—form always happens in a particular order.
